Avon Sound Overview

The site offers shallow, flatwater sailing. Northeast winds push the water out into the sound to create very shallow water near shore. Runs to the reef can be made from the Ocean Air site (fomerly Windsurfing Hatteras).

The sailing site is located on the soundside of Route 12 as you enter the town of Avon from the north. Go behind Ocean Air and across the bridge to the water. Be sure to park your car back at the shop after you rig up.

Sensor Notes

The sensor is now located (as of 8/2002) in the Pamlico Sound about 1/4 mile offshore, thanks to Ocean Air in Avon. Look for very accurate on the water conditions coming for the meter.
