...gale force winds expected behind cold front thursday through
friday...

.onshore flow will strengthen over the offshore waters to
moderate to strong levels this evening through thursday morning
as an area of low pressure deepens over the texas panhandle. this
surface low will strengthen thursday as it moves east across
north texas. a pacific cold front will move through south texas
and move into the middle texas coastal waters by late thursday
morning. behind the front, strong to very strong west to
northwest winds will develop in its wake. sustained gale force
winds are expected over the coastal waters thursday afternoon,
with gusts to storm force possible over the gulf waters thursday
night. gale force winds will continue through friday morning
before the pressure gradient weakens and the wind diminishes into
small craft advisory criterion friday afternoon.

the national weather service in corpus christi has issued a gale
warning, which is in effect from 2 pm thursday to 3 pm cst
friday. the gale watch is no longer in effect. 

* winds...south winds around 20 knots tonight. sustained west 30
  to 35 knots thursday afternoon increasing to northwest 35 to 40
  knots. gusts to near 50 knots possible late thursday afternoon 
  and thursday night. 

* waves/seas...seas building to 6 to 7 feet tonight. seas build 
  to 9 to 13 feet thursday night. occasional higher seas up to 
  17 feet offshore. 

precautionary/preparedness actions...

a gale warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or
occurring. operating a vessel in gale conditions requires
experience and properly equipped vessels. it is highly
recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe
harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.

a small craft advisory means that wind speeds of 20 to 33 knots
and/or seas of 7 feet or greater are expected to produce
hazardous conditions to small craft. inexperienced mariners...
especially those operating smaller vessels should avoid
navigating in these conditions. mariners should pay close

wake of a cold front carrying a line of storms. sustained winds to
the edge of the gale threshold, with frequent gusts to around 40
knots, particularly farther offshore. towards the 60 nm level,
some gusts may be begin to approach storm force.
