Texas City Levee
Wind - Any direction except west.
Skill - All levels.
Location and Directions - On Galveston Bay in small town across from Galveston called Texas City. Take I-45 South from Houston towards Galveston, exit FM 1764 in Texas City (1 hour from downtown Houston); take FM 1764 all the way through Texas City until it dead-ends at the levee. Turn right, then take an immediate left at the light. Turn left at the stop sign at the top of the levee, and proceed to the spot marked by a sign "Windsurfing Area." Park near the port-a-cans to reduce your distance from the sandy section of beach.
Parking - Parallel park along the side of the road. Get there early on windy days to prevent long walks with equipment. It can get crowded here on weekends.
Rigging Area - Large grassy area on the side of a levee with a 20 yard walk to the beach.
Entry - Sandy beach.
Description - Easily the most popular spot in the Houston and Galveston area. The best feature of this sailing site is its sandy bottom and shallow water. You can usually touch bottom up to a half mile offshore, which makes it great for learning beach starts, waterstarts, or for practicing jibes. Windy spring and summer weekends will draw a couple of hundred sailors.

Texas City Dike
Wind - South to Southeast.
Skill - Intermediate to Expert.
Location and Directions - Go straight at the stop sign at the top of the levee, and drive out on the Dike, a thin strip of land extending five miles out into the bay.
Parking - Parking along road and in gravel parking areas.
Rigging Area - Sand or gravel.
Entry - Sandy beach.
Description - Galveston Bay's best speed sailing site. Prevailing winds blow offshore as they cross the Dike, creating flat water. The Dike is not recommended for beginners; if you get blown too far downwind, you may run into Houston Ship Channel Traffic.
