144 pm pst sat jan 20 2018

...high surf advisory remains in effect from 10 pm this evening
to 10 pm pst sunday...

* waves and surf...breaking waves of 23 to 26 feet are expected
tonight through sunday afternoon before diminishing to less
than 20 feet by sunday night.

* timing...initially, south facing beaches along the coast will
receive the highest waves. then fresh west swell will bring
another set of high waves to all southern oregon beaches
  sunday morning.

* impacts...waves will run up much higher on the beaches than
normal. these waves will be powerful and can sweep people off
jetties and other exposed rocks. they can also easily move
large logs and other beach debris. bar crossings and the surf
zone will be especially dangerous due to strong currents and
  breaking waves.

* view the hazard area in detail at

precautionary/preparedness actions...

go to the beach another day.

if you must go to the beach, always keep your eye on the sea and
stay off of jetties, rocks, and logs.

a high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach
erosion.
