the national weather service in miami has issued a high rip
current risk, which is in effect from 8 am edt this morning
through this evening. 

* timing...through this evening.

* impacts...life threatening rip currents will pose a hazard to 
  swimmers. heed the advice of lifeguards. swimming is not 
  recommended. 

precautionary/preparedness actions...

there is a high risk of rip currents.

rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the
sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins, jetties
and piers. heed the advice of lifeguards, beach patrol flags and
signs.

swim near a lifeguard. if caught in a rip current, relax and
float. don't swim against the current. if able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. if unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.

the national weather service in tallahassee has issued a high rip
current risk, which is in effect from 8 am edt this morning
through late saturday night. 

* coastal flooding...minor coastal flooding possible with water 
  levels 1 to 2 feet above ground. 

* timing...water levels will increase starting early friday 
  morning. peak water levels are expected friday afternoon. at 
  alligator point, high tides are 252 am et and 247 pm et 
  friday. 

* impacts...low lying beach access roads will flood. portions of 
  alligator point road may experience overwash around the time 
  of high tide. 

precautionary/preparedness actions...

a coastal flood watch means that conditions favorable for
flooding are expected to develop. coastal residents should be
alert for later statements or warnings, and take action to
protect property.

there is a high risk of rip currents.

from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the
sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins, jetties
and piers. heed the advice of lifeguards, beach patrol flags and
signs.

if you become caught in a rip current, yell for help. remain
calm, do not exhaust yourself and stay afloat while waiting for
help. if you have to swim out of a rip current, swim parallel to
shore and back toward the beach when possible. do not attempt to
swim directly against a rip current as you will tire quickly.
