Long Beach Kite Expo: Capture the Wind

Starting on Friday July 22nd through Sunday, there will be many kiteboarding and SUP brands on hand with the latest 2011 gear on display for demo. The afternoon will begin with a near shore visible and exciting 80+ paddler SUP race series. This is a sport that has grown substantially over the past few years and is fun to watch!! Once the wind arrives, the city has agreed to allow the Association to create a separate beach zone where kiters will compete in the first official jumping contest held in Southern California. We have also partnered with KiteMasters to set up a kiteboarding race course to show off the speed of our sport. Registration is just $20 to enter either race or the jumping contest. Discount registration will be available until 2 weeks prior to the event. A food and beer garden will be available to make sure no spectator goes hungry or thirsty while watching or participating in the festivities. On Friday, the Long Beach Parks and Recreation department will help host an event where 1,500 inner city kids will be given single string kites to fly, play games and enjoy the beach. Some of the kids will be able to fly trainer kites to get a feel for the power of the wind and get a taste of what kiteboarding is all about. The kids will also participate in SUP demonstrations instructed by local racers. The SCKA invites all to come out to Claremont Ramp in Belmont Shore and enjoy the three-day event to help show the city of Long Beach what the kiteboarding community is all about. This event represents our efforts to give back to the community and provide riders the chance to try out new gear during the windiest time in Southern California. Admission is free to all.
