2009 US Kiteboarding National Championships INVITATION AND NOTICE OF RACE Registration may be completed online at www.ccyc.com The City of Corpus Christi and the Corpus Christi Yacht Club cordially invite you to attend the 2009 US Kiteboarding National Championships to be held Tuesday, May 5 through Saturday, May 9, 2009 on the waters of Corpus Christi Bay. 1. LOCAL ORGANIZING AUTHORITY The Local Organizing Authority (LOA) will be the Corpus Christi Yacht Club. 2. RULES This regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing for 2009-2012 (RRS) and the IKA course racing rules. 3. ADVERTISING This event is a category 'C' class as set out in the ISAF Regulation 20 – Advertising Code. Competitors who have their own sponsorship are asked to notify the LOA in writing of their sponsor. Competitors may be required to wear sponsor jersey and/or sail stickers on their kite. 4. SAFETY All competitors shall attend the mandatory skippers meeting on Wednesday, 10am at the Corpus Christi Yacht Club. All competitors shall wear USCG approved PFD’s while racing. 5. ELIGIBILITY All entries shall be members of the US Kiteboard Class or ISAF. Competitors may apply for membership during event registration. 6. DISCIPLINE For the determination of the US National Champion the discipline will be Course Racing. 7. ENTRY Registration may be completed online at www.ccyc.com. The Entry fee is $150, if received by April 15, 2009. The Entry fee is $190, if received after April 15, 2009. Late registration and Check-In will begin at 1600 hours and close at 2000 hours on May 5, 2009. Late registration is 800 hours to 1000hours on May 6, 2009. 8. SCHEDULE Tuesday, May 5 • 4pm to 8p.m.: Registration and Check-In Wednesday, May 6 – 8am to 10am: Late Registration • 10 a.m.: Sailor's Meeting, (Mandatory) • 1pm.: Racing (Qualifiers) • 7:00 p.m.: Opening Ceremony @ Corpus Christi Yacht Club Thursday, May 7 • 11:30 a.m.: Racing (Qualifiers) • 7:00 p.m.: Post Racing Social @ Corpus Christi Yacht Club Friday, May 8 • 11:30 a.m.: Racing (Finals) • 7:00 p.m.: Post Racing Social @ Corpus Christi Yacht Club Saturday, May 9 • 11:30 a.m.: Racing (Finals) • 7:00pm Awards Ceremony @ Corpus Christi Yacht Club; 8:30pm Awards Party (location to be announced) 9. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS Sailing Instructions will be available at registration 10. RACING AREA Racing will take place in Corpus Christi Bay, off McGee Beach.

Down for some Great White Downwinders? Kick off Friday afternoon kiting waves at Dillon Beach. Saturday and Sunday bring a choice of 6 mile scenic downwinders. The ever popular Tomales Bay downwinder starts with waves at Dillon Beach, funnels through the mouth of Tomales Bay, and slides past Hog Island to land at Grassy Point. For the more adventuresome (cojones mas grandes), The Bodega Bay Downwinder launches through waves at Doran Beach, then traverses 6 miles of open ocean and rugged coast, landing at Dillon Beach. BYOB Kite Camp at Lawson's Landing, just lee of the Dillon Beach sand dunes. If the weekend brings no wind, the event is rain-checked to the next weekend(s). See you first windy weekend after Memorial Day!

Free Safety & Skills Clinic

Southern California Kiteboarding Association (SCKA) Safety & Skills Clinic Date:May 30 (Saturday) Location: Belmont Shore Long Beach, California (parking lot next to La Verne Ave. and E. Ocean Blvd.) Cost: Free. Members of SCKA and local instructors will donate their time and knowledge to make kiting safer for everyone. Requirement: This is not for teaching beginners how to kite. You must have taken at least a water lesson and know how to rig your own equipment, can comfortably fly your kite. For the on water skills clinics, you must be able to ride in both directions and have excellent kite control. 12:00-1:00 Sign up, pick up handouts for beach rules and guidelines. Clinic participants please rig up your kites and have your gear ready. We will have kiting safety equipment on display courtesy of Kitesurfari. 1:00-4:00 We will group the kiters based on skill and experience and each group will have an instructor. The groups will rotate through all of the stations to learn about the various topics. We will limit the number of people in each group, so it is first come first serve. Please be on time! Clinic A, Wind/water/kite selection considerations and kiting rules and guidelines: Learn about the typical weather conditions in So Cal and what to watch out for. Also learn about wind strength, kite size, wind directions, and when you should not go out. Will go over the Belmont kiting rules and how to kite in crowded places. Clinic B, Gear inspection and safety system deployment: Learn how to inspect and maintain your equipment to prevent problems. Learn what to do in case of equipment failure. Learn how the safety system works on your kite & bar and how to activate them. Practice letting go of the bar and activating your safety. Also test your quick releases under load to make sure they work. Layout your bar/lines and have your harness ready for this clinic. Clinic C, Land simulation of water self rescue: Learn how to depower your downed kite, wrap up your lines and work your way to your kite and use it to pull you back to shore. Clinic D, Skills workshop (some will depend on the wind condition): This workshop will be tailored to the skill level of the group and each group can decide on which skills they would like to work on. Options are kite flying, self launch, self landing, body dragging upwind, proper stance, board edging, going up wind, transition, load & pop and jumping. Have your equipment ready to go.

Triple-S stands for surf, slicks, and sliders! This means that the event will be mobile, taking the world's best riders to Hatteras Island’s best riding locations for each days given conditions. Spectators are welcomed and encouraged to come check out each days festivities.
