29.5 inch low pressure is centered over lake superior this
evening, with an arctic cold front over western wisconsin. the
front will cross the waters tonight, bringing rapidly increasing
west-northwest winds. widespread gales are anticipated through
monday afternoon, with a gale warning in effect between 12 am cst
and 6 pm cst monday. winds will taper monday evening into early
tuesday morning as 30.3 inch high pressure approaches from the
northern great plains. winds will taper further and shift
southwesterly on tuesday as the aforementioned area of high
pressure crosses lake michigan. elevated waves and arriving arctic
air will lead to areas of heavy freezing spray from tonight
through tuesday morning. a heavy freezing spray warning remains in
effect between 12 am cst monday and 12 pm cst tuesday given this
potential.
west to southwest winds will continue through the day on wednesday
as 29.8 inch low pressure passes near or just south of the open
waters. gusts to 25 knots are possible. winds will increase
further and shift out of the west-northwest wednesday night as
another arctic cold front crosses lake michigan. gusts between
25-30 knots are currently expected, with trends being monitored
for possible gales in coming forecasts. arriving arctic air and
elevated wave heights will support additional periods of moderate
to potentially heavy freezing spray wednesday night through
thursday morning, with trends being monitored for possible
headlines in coming forecasts. winds will turn north-northwesterly
friday into saturday as 30.9 inch high pressure builds into the
