Leo Carrillo Overview
Leo Carrillo offers gusty winds off a sharp rocky beach running along the Pacific Coast Highway 1. This is one of the few spots around for local folks to get any wind with waves. You can also avoid the surf zone just fine if you prefer to. There's bump and jump on the outside and speed sailing near the kelp. Please note that there are surfer-only zones set up -- be certain that you stay out of these. The wave slot is dominated by 3 large rocks just under water, and kelp beds restricting maneuverability, causing local sailors to regularly buy new fins. Also, the beach is often crowded on weekends.
Summer winds are predictable afternoon thermal winds 14-20 range. Winter & Spring bring stronger winds 18-24 knot range. Water temperatures in spring & fall are 60-65, while winter brings cooler water temps in the 55- 58 range. Like many Southern California sites, there is often water pollution after measurable rain.
Parking for a fee is available in the parking lot or free along the side of Highway 1. Parking can be difficult at times. Best to park in the pay parking area as lots of break ins along PCH.

Exit Rte. 1 PCH @ Leo Carrillo Beach 10 miles north of Zuma Beach. Best to park in the pay parking area as lots of break ins along PCH.

Sensor Notes
Sensor is on top of the Lifeguard station on the bluff. About 50 feet from the water, and about 80 feet above the water. Reports are that the actual windspeed on the water is generally about 3 higher than the windspeed at the sensor. There are no obstructions for the sensor from all 360 degrees.
