Unique geography and persistent weather patterns combine to make this thermally driven site one of the best in British Columbia. Our sensor resides at the main Squamish Terminal complex just north of the launch area. We must thank Philippe of AirTime Boardsports - www.airtimeboardsports.com - for helping us locate this site. But local sailor / kiter Ross Peaty must get equal appreciation for spending the time to help us install this tricky position.

The best steady wind is SW or SSW and it is quite reliable during the summer from May to October. When the wind is W or WSW it is very gusty. It is not rideable on N (outflow) winds.

Note that the Squamish spit launch area is run by the Squamish Windsports Society, a non profit organization, who provides seadoo retrieval services and other amenities. The is a day fee charged for launching at the spit to support these services.

The Squamish Terminal complex consists of a number of football field sized buildings, all in the 40 ft tall range. Our sensor is located at the back edge of the property so winds must travel over a couple of these huge warehouses before reaching us. However, we have managed to secure a 20 ft mast to the top of our building in order to reach the cleanest wind possible. This puts the sensors at approx. 50 ft above water level and around 1/2 mile downwind of the Spit.
