waves are the significant wave height - the average of the
highest 1/3 of the wave spectrum. occasional wave height is the
average of the highest 1/10 of the wave spectrum.

.synopsis...surface high pressure of 30.2 inches is currently
overhead, remaining in control of the area into tonight. by early
wednesday morning, a 29.2 inch low near the ne/sd border will 
traverse toward the upper great lakes throughout the day, 
broadening out and weakening as it does so. by overnight wednesday,
this low will have weakened to 29.7 inches and be centered over 
upper michigan. from this point onward, systems will pass quickly 
through the region, with a 30.2 inch ridge visiting thursday night
into early friday, but then quickly be replaced by a 29.4 inch 
low scooting just to the north of lake superior late friday into 
early saturday. the next high pressure of about 30.1 inches 
marches in for the latter half of the weekend, with high pressure
looking to dominate into early next week.

.today...east winds 5 to 15 knots becoming northeast 10 to
20 knots in the afternoon. waves building to 3 to 5 feet
occasionally to 7 feet. 
.tonight...northeast winds 15 to 25 knots veering east after
midnight, then increasing to gales to 35 knots late. a slight
chance of rain showers through midnight, then rain showers after
midnight. waves building to 7 to 10 feet occasionally to 13 feet.
.wednesday...east gales to 35 knots diminishing to 15 to 25 knots
late. a chance of rain. waves subsiding to 5 to 8 feet
occasionally to 10 feet. 
.wednesday night...east winds 15 to 25 knots becoming west 5 to
15 knots after midnight. rain likely through midnight, then a
slight chance of rain after midnight. waves subsiding to 2 to
4 feet.
