Susquehanna Buoy Overview
The upper Chesapeake is not very accessable to windsurfers. This is unfortunate given that the Susquehanna flats can sometimes resemble Hatteras/Pamilico Sound conditions with miles of waist deep water. Most windy days you will see a few kiters on the flats who launch from boats. Perry Point Park is really the only place to access close to this Bouy. Elk Neck State Park is more remote. It has access points on both the Northeast River/Susquehanna flat side and the Elk River Side. If you are in the area and there is a hard South West wind blowing, you will not be sorry you gave this a try. The fetch on this direction comes all the way from Baltimore and there can be some very nice rollers for big jumps. Summer wind is generally terrible in this area, but spring and fall can get pretty fun. All directions except East are good from Elk Neck State Park because it is a penninsula (AKA Turkey Point)
