.synopsis...

30.2 inch low pressure is positioned near the mississippi river
this evening, with 29.4 inch low pressure over new york
maintaining gusty north to northwest winds across the open waters.
the aforementioned high will approach lake michigan tonight,
allowing winds to fall below gale thresholds. currently anticipate
that the gale warning will be able to expire as scheduled at 12
am cst, but will continue to closely monitor wind gust trends
through the remainder of the evening hours. if any extensions were
necessary, they would be for a short time period over the
southern third of the open waters.

winds will continue to decrease across the open waters thursday
as 30.1 inch high pressure moves across lake michigan. low
pressure of 29.5 inches will build into the upper mississippi
river valley thursday evening, resulting in increasing
southwesterly winds across the waters. winds will trend westerly
on friday as the aforementioned area of low pressure moves across
lake michigan. 25-30 knot gusts are possible thursday night
through friday afternoon, though widespread gale potential is low
at this time. will continue to monitor trends. generally west to
northwesterly winds and periods of 25-30 knot gusts will continue
through the day sunday.

a cold front is forecast to cross lake michigan at some point sunday
night into monday morning, bringing increasing northwesterly winds
to the open waters. there is some potential for gales late sunday
night into at least monday afternoon, particularly across the
southern half of lake michigan. will be monitoring trends for
potential headlines in the coming forecasts. winds will decrease on
tuesday as high pressure builds into the northern great plains.

areas of moderate freezing spray will continue into thursday
morning across all of lake michigan. with arctic air lingering
across the western great lakes, periods of at least moderate
freezing spray will remain part of the forecast from this weekend
into early next week. freezing spray could become heavy behind a
cold front late sunday night through tuesday, with trends being
monitored for potential headlines in coming forecasts.

northwesterly winds and periods of 25-30 knot gusts will continue
through the day sunday.

a cold front is forecast to cross lake michigan at some point sunday
night into monday morning, bringing increasing northwesterly winds
to the open waters. there is some potential for gales late sunday
night into at least monday afternoon, particularly across the
southern half of lake michigan. will be monitoring trends for
potential headlines in the coming forecasts. winds will decrease on
tuesday as high pressure builds into the northern great plains.

areas of moderate freezing spray will continue into thursday
morning across all of lake michigan. with arctic air lingering
across the western great lakes, periods of at least moderate
freezing spray will remain part of the forecast from this weekend
into early next week. freezing spray could become heavy behind a
cold front late sunday night through tuesday, with trends being
monitored for potential headlines in coming forecasts.
