Season: Spring & Fall are best-(great east winds) Winter is ok (west winds) but summer dead & Tstorms
Water: Tampa Bay water isn't the cleanest- grimy from river mouth-you will smell like wet dog
Ability Level: Intermediate+Gets Narly off Island but FUN chop ramps- lots of boat traffic in channel
Wetsuit: Cold only in DEC-FEB water warms up quick in bay
Parking: Limited on Davis Island-can park by big open grassy field before airport(south point of island)
Launch: Small beach on South tip of island but BEST launch from Ballast Point on the west side of bay

Data from this station is courtesy of a personal weather station. Station Sensory Located at Davis Island Airport. Awsome readings in the area for East wind (NE-E-SE)(good consitent readings updated more often then any other sensor in all Tampa-preaty much EVERY MINUTE!) South wind readings are good too. But I tend not too look at the W-NW-N readings too much as there is a line of trees/houses on the west side of the airport. Over-all this is one of the best stations (and wind spots due to how it sticks out into the bay and the wind REALLY funnels by) in the Tampa Bay area. Davis Island sensor is a great ref. for the inner Tampa bay. I use this sensory for east winds when I launch not from Davis Island but from Ballast Point (on the west side of the bay-at the South end of Bayshore Blvd ). ****** Ballast Point Park(west side across bay from Davis Island) is really a great spot that harvests the fetch of the east wind(great view of DT Tampa as you ride in the bay)with a great sand bottom that lets small lines of knee+ waves to form (only very close to shore is patches of oyster bed-there are a few big rocks in the water very close to the pier-the old pier remains-but you can see them and its on the inside-south of boat ramp- where you wouldn't windsurf anyways-but other than that its all sand) and never any boat traffic as opposed to the busy Davis Island channel on the east side of Davis Island(busy w tug boats/tankers/cruise ships). Launch from Ballast Point Park is best north of the ballast point pier on the boat ramp(carefull it can be slippery) but water is churned up and cloudy when its windy and is a bit fishy smelly/grimy from the fishing pier. But is a Awsome spot if you live in tampa - nevery anyone in water- only me and Dr. Dan(now moved to sarasota) windsurf here - its a shame cuz its a blast. I brought my friend Mark once and he really enjoyed the spot due to the waves,E wind quality, and jumps.
