This is an ocean fishing pier located about three miles south of Cape Canaveral. You could theoretically launch there off the beach, but most windsurfers and kiteboarders go to either Jetty Park, which is a beach park adjacent to Port Canaveral, or Cherie Downs Park, which is another beach park about a mile south of Jetty Park. Jetty Park costs $7 to get in per vehicle, but the beach launch there is excellent. The shorebreak is always smaller, there's less current, and the angle of the coast is such that a northeast wind will be more sideshore there than other beaches to the south. Cherie Downs park is similar, but the shorebreak is a little rougher than Jetty Park. Cherie Downs has the advantage of free parking. Both parks have bathrooms and grassy rigging areas. Jetty Park even has camping facilities. Local Expert? edit Edit this Page!

 Season: all seasons
Water: around 60 in winter to mid 80's in summer
Ability Level: surf sailing. intermediate or better.
 Familiness: very family friendly
Parking: pay parking at the pier
Launch: sandy beach launch into surf

To get to the ocean sailing spots take Hwy 528 (aka "the Beachline") from Orlando all the way to coast where it feeds into southbound A1A. To get to Jetty Park, exit the Beachline Hwy just where it starts to curve south. There's a green sign that says "to Jetty Park" or something like that. To get to Cherie Downs park, go a little further south onto A1A, but turn left (east) at the McDonalds. Keep going east as far as you can, passing through a neighborhood, then turn right at the beach road and go south a couple blocks. Cherie Downs Park is on your left. To get to the pier, Take AIA further south about 3 miles and look for the "fishing pier" signs on the left.

The Cocoa Beach Pier sensor is reliable for any wind direction with some east in it. For offshore winds, it's not as reliable, but still not too bad. The sensor tends to read a little high because it's up so far above the water.
