The launch at Minet's Point in Barrie has lots of grass for rigging and is a mixture of small pebbles with sand.

Barrie is often the exception to wind conditions in Southern Ontario. The wind can be 20 knots in Barrie and 10 knots everywhere else. The best winds are from the west to northwest and create ideal sideshore sailing conditions.

Because the tip of Kempenfelt Bay is upwind, waves do not have much time to build in prevailing winds. In most conditions, small chop is the order of the day. However, winds from the east (which are rarely the case) create much larger waves. Kempenfelt Bay is quite deep and therefore, the water temperature tends to be on the cool side. However, summer weather can warm the surface water enough to make a shorty optional.

West to northwest winds create ideal sideshore sailing conditions.
No hazards to speak of, except for boat traffic.
The park has ample free parking and public washrooms.
For family outings, there are picnic tables as well as a playground for young ones.
Grocery store, bank machine, and fast food shops only a two minute drive into town.
Barrie has a large and active windsurfing community. Barrie Windriders is a friendly, well-run club with members from beginner to expert. They have a varied sailing season from April to October with organized activities and clinics. The club meets regularly on Wednesday nights at the park.

Minet's Point is located on the south side of Kempenfelt Bay (Lake Simcoe) in Barrie, about one hour from Toronto. Take Highway 400 north to Barrie, and exit east on Mapleview. A couple blocks later, turn left on Huronia. When you hit Yonge Street, take a right, then an immediate left onto Minet's Point Road. Follow signs to the park.

The sensor is mounted on the sign post at the water's edge at Minet's Point and has a clear view of the wind from southwest clockwise to the east.
