Mackinac (pronounced MackinaW) is an island 8 miles around.
So there are potentially many places to launch from. I've launched in front of Arch Rock where the winds are very iffy, blowing off-shore, in front of the school-yard, and British Landing. All on a rocky/small stone beach. In front of the school yard is an ideal place to launch, but you must set up on the beach and launch from standing in the water unless you want to be dragged through the stones. Watch out for boats, as you will be kiting close to the ferries coming and going from the island. You are in the straights at this point in between 2 of the great lakes. Have fun, watch the wind, it will shift. Don't kite anywhere near horses, you could create a run-away.

British Landing and Devil's Kitchen (school yard) beaches are both westward facing. So you get a nice side-on-shore wind. The wind is stronger when your kite gets above the trees. If you try to go out on the east side of the island (arch rock North to Point aux Pins) you will go out to sea and probably end up in Canada. A boat is good on the east side.

 Season: June - September
Water: Fresh Lake Water, small to no waves
 Ability Level: Intermed. to Advanced
Parking: Park your bike, there are no cars allowed on the island
Launch: In front of the school. Set up kite on rocky beach, water launch.

Take a boat (Arnold Line is the best) from either st. ignace or Mackinaw City. Get off the boat and go left down Main street on a bike or taxi, or just walk it. School yard is down around the bend, you'll notice the wind.
